First graduate with a specialization in exoprosthetics!

10.09.2024 -

We are happy to congratulate Hanna Thomas on successfully completing the Master’s program in Biomechanical Engineering at the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg. It is particularly noteworthy that Hanna Thomas is the first graduate of the program with a specialization in Exoprosthetics.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Sports and Enginnering at OVGU, she continued her academic journey by enrolling in the interdisciplinary Master’s program in Biomechanical Engineering with a focus on Exoprosthetics.

Hanna completed her master’s thesis, titled “Evaluation of factors influencing the measurement accuracy of methods for markerless 3D motion capture using a humanoid”, at the Department of Biomechanics/Sports Technology at the Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT) in Leipzig. Her work focused on evaluating the accuracy of a markerless motion-capturing system under various conditions, analyzing factors such as clothing, movement patterns, and the positioning of a humanoid model. This work built upon the topics covered in courses like Motion Analysis and Dynamics of Motion while integrating cutting-edge technologies in motion analysis with fundamental biomechanical questions.

Supervised by Prof. Dr. Elmar Woschke (Chair of Multibody Dynamics) and Dr. Axel Schleichardt (Institute for Applied Training Science), Hanna brought together methodological expertise in movement science, technical knowledge, and biomechanical approaches. This interdisciplinary method reflects the core of the Biomechanical Engineering program, showcasing how combining expertise from diverse fields can lead to innovative developments in product design.

We congratulate Hanna on this milestone and wish her continued success in the world of biomechanics!
